In 2019, it was estimated that the total audience of esports would grow to 454 million viewers and that revenues would increase to over US$1 billion. More than 40 countries have listed e-Sports as a formal sports event. In South Korea and China, e-sports have been regarded as a part of the national industrial development scheme. The main medium for e-Sport coverage widely, including video game design, the Internet live streaming, television, professional e-Sports gamer training and team management. Based on this, the school established a new “E-Sports Industry Management, ESIM” Degree Course in 2018, which aims to recruit students from the departments of senior high schools in related to design, business management and information management. The department provides four major areas of expert knowledge and skills in the field of the e-Sports industry:
- Network Hardware Platform,
- Game Production,
- Event Production, and
- Digital Marketing and Communication.
The department invites international and national e-sports players to conduct intensive lectures and teaching. The courses also connect to game industries, which allows students to plan their career at an earlier stage. As regards, the compulsory courses include “E-Sports in Practice” from the first to the third year of the degree course. Furthermore, the compulsory courses are divided into “initial, intermediate and advanced” as the core training courses for e-sports players. These compulsory courses also include the operation of e-Sports competitions, the organization of international organizations and e-Sports competitions, the formation of referees and coaches, and the development of e-Sports organizations. Also, the electives course are divided into three categories:
- Game Design and Game Testing Analysis
- Information Management and Multimedia Applications
- Event Curation and Digital Media Marketing
In the final year, students will be arranged in the “Industry Practice Internship” course to conduct internships for at least half a year.
